SUZI CHAPMAN

Suzi Chapman is a native of Kentucky and has lived in central Texas for more than 53 years. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in history and English and a master’s degree in reading education, Suzi began her 30-year career as an instructional design specialist and educational administrator at Central Texas College.

She served as the Superintendent of American Preparatory Institute, an adult competency-based high school that offered basic skills education and high school diploma programs for military personnel worldwide. During her tenure at API, Suzi coordinated its approval by the Texas Education Agency and its accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Suzi’s next assignment was as the project manager for Central Texas College’s language and technical program for international students located abroad. In that capacity, she directed the design, development, and deployment of on-site English language and technical training materials, along with their delivery by American personnel.

In her last years at Central Texas College, Suzi initiated CTC’s online learning program, which resulted in complete course work for online degrees, testing, and support services. Under her direction, CTC became the leader in the Army’s eArmyU program.

Following her retirement, Suzi and her husband, Ken, have continued their commitment to education through the Chapman Scholarship Program, which has assisted 100 first-generation college students in pursuing postsecondary education and training.

Suzi is the older woman at the Harker Heights Kids’ Entrance greeting parents and hugging kids most Sundays. She loves the Lord and brings her extensive educational experience, her love of children, and her commitment to our Lord to her role on the VCA Board. What she lacks in youth, she makes up for in enthusiasm and dedication.
